Every Vivid Stoneworks natural stone benchtop is genuinely one of a kind, with veining and colour variation that no manufacturing process can replicate. Granite sits around Mohs 6 to 7 on the hardness scale, giving excellent heat resistance and strong durability for busy kitchens. Marble is softer at Mohs 3 to 5, but brings a level of elegance that makes it a popular choice for bathroom vanities and feature surfaces. Quartzite is one of the toughest natural materials we fabricate, scoring Mohs 7 to 8, and gives you a marble-like look with granite-level durability. Limestone and soapstone bring distinctive texture and warmth, though we typically recommend these for lower-traffic areas rather than busy kitchen benchtops.

Natural stone does need resealing every few years, but in exchange you get a surface that ages gracefully and keeps performing in our climate for decades.

Mineral Stone Options

Mineral stone is manufactured from natural stone particles bound with resin, traditionally around 90 to 95 percent crushed quartz aggregate combined with polymer resin, pigments, and fillers under heat and pressure. The result is a non-porous, highly consistent surface with predictable colour and pattern, and it's been one of the most popular benchtop materials in Australian homes for good reason: it's cost-effective and suits both residential and commercial spaces.

That landscape changed significantly on 1 July 2024, when NSW banned the import, supply, and fabrication of engineered stone containing more than 1 percent crystalline silica, due to the serious health risk silica dust poses to fabrication workers, particularly silicosis. Traditional high-silica engineered quartz brands are no longer legally available for new installations anywhere in our region, including here on the Central Coast.

What's filled that gap are silica free mineral stone products, sintered stone (manufactured from natural minerals under extreme heat and pressure with minimal or no resin), and large-format porcelain panels. Porcelain and sintered stone are heat-resistant and non-porous, keeping the stain resistance and low-maintenance appeal that made traditional engineered quartz so popular, while meeting current safety regulations. Reconstituted stone benchtops are also available in silica free formulations that comply with today's requirements, so homeowners who love the engineered look haven't lost that option, it's just changed shape.

For homeowners who prefer the consistency of an engineered look,  silica free mineral stone and sintered stone give you excellent stain and scratch resistance without the silica risk. Edge profiles matter too. Simple rounded edges remain the go-to for family kitchens, while waterfall edges are increasingly popular on luxury projects we've fabricated in suburbs like Copacabana and MacMasters Beach.

Bathroom Vanities

Bathrooms present a different set of demands: sustained moisture exposure, chemical contact from beauty and cleaning products, and the ongoing risk of mould. Stone here needs to handle humidity without deteriorating, which makes correct sealing critical from day one.

Marble is a frequent choice for bathroom vanities on the Central Coast because of the sheer elegance it brings to the space, few materials match the luxurious look of natural marble veining. Its softness does leave it vulnerable to etching from acidic beauty and cleaning products, though, so for clients who love the marble aesthetic but want less maintenance, we often recommend a silica free mineral stone or porcelain panel with a marble-look finish. You get the same visual style with far less susceptibility to staining and etching.

Outdoor Entertainment Areas

Outdoor living is central to how people use their Central Coast homes, BBQ areas, alfresco kitchens, and outdoor bars are standard inclusions on most of the projects we quote. Outdoor stone has to cope with UV exposure, temperature swings, rain, salt air, and airborne debris, so material choice matters even more here than indoors.

Granite and quartzite perform best outdoors thanks to their UV stability, heat resistance, and structural integrity, and sintered stone and porcelain panels are also excellent outdoor choices. Most resin-based engineered stones, on the other hand, can yellow, degrade, or even delaminate under direct sun and high outdoor temperatures, which is why we steer clients away from them for alfresco projects. Stone selection and template creation: We present actual slab samples in our showroom, and for natural stone we always recommend viewing the full slab, since variation between samples and final material can be significant. You'll choose your thickness (typically 20mm or 30mm-plus), edge profile, and finish (polished, honed, or leathered). We then create a digital template using laser scanning technology for millimetre accuracy, and this is where your specific design preferences take shape.

Fabrication and edge profiling: Your slab is cut in our workshop using wet saws, with edges shaped to your chosen profile and cut-outs made for sinks, cooktops, and other fixtures. All fabrication complies with current Safe Work Australia silica-dust regulations, including wet cutting and dust extraction. Edge treatments, whether waterfall, mitred, or eased, affect both the look and the cost of the finished product.

Professional installation and finishing: We transport your benchtop to site using appropriate equipment, including cranes where access is difficult, position and level it precisely, join seams, polish joins, install splashbacks if specified, and seal natural stone surfaces. Installation typically takes one to two days for a residential project. We walk you through the finished result before we leave, so you know exactly what you're getting and how to look after it.
